bottle-rockets to the sun

On September 21, 2013 (in anticipation of the Fall Equinox on September 22) we had a celebration. It was prime time for a trip to the sands of Utah Lake. It was a lovely day warmed by the sun and Sterling & Jessica(?), Harry & Tessa (random), and Elyse & Alex (also a random pair at this point) made way to the lake. We six packed the five person car and arrived with a picnic basket loaded with fine beverage glasses, an array of crackers & cheese, and bottlerockets. The coals of an earlier fire were revived, cheese was cut, and the beach was patterned with foot prints. According to plan, poems, pictures, and paragraphs were written to the sun - in gratitude for it being warm, always where it was supposed to be, and far enough away still that it didn't melt us. The notes were presented on a wood stump in front of our audience, attached to bottle rockets, and sent the way of the sun. It was a happy day.
